SHSS Faculty, Students and Alum Present at Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Conference
Faculty, students and alumni of the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) recently participated in the 2011 Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (FAMFT) Conference.
Ronald Chenail, Ph.D., professor in DFT gave the plenary presentation entitled: “How our Clients Can Help Us Enhance their Therapeutic Experiences and Outcomes.” Chenail is also the program director for the Qualitative Research Graduate Certificate in the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in SHSS.
Monica Burton, FAMFT President Elect, and master’s graduate of DFT moderated a panel of faculty from various programs to discuss current training issues. Participants included Tommie Boyd, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of DFT and Anne Rambo, Ph.D., DFT associate professor, who discussed DFT’s programs.
Debra Nixon, Ph.D., assistant professor in DFT, gave a presentation entitled: “Escape From Dissertation-land: Using Intentional Mentoring with MFT Trainees.” Nixon also gave a presentation with doctoral student Jamison Mercer entitled: Spiritually Speaking: How to Privilege the Voice of Faith in Therapy.”
Arlene Gordon, Ph.D. Clinical Director of DFT’s Brief Therapy Institute and Michael Reiter, Ph.D., DFT graduate gave a presentation entitled: “ Hope & Expectancy in Brief Solution Focused Therapy.”
Chris Burnett, Ph.D., associate professor in DFT and doctoral students Tamara Taitt and Adri Stewart gave a presentation entitled: “In Home Therapy with at Risk Clients – Tools for Beginning Therapists.” Taitt and Cherry McCrory Camper, also a doctoral student, gave a presentation entitled: “Flex Practicum: A Collaborative Approach to Supervision.” Taitt is also an American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Minority Fellow and presented a workshop with other fellows entitled: “The Heart of the Matter by four AAMFT Minority Fellows.”
Doctoral student Marcela Polanco gave a presentation entitled: “Bilingualizing Narrative Therapy: A Latin American Version of Narrative Practice to Work with People of Latin American Origin.”
