SHSS Faculty Presents at the Association for Graduate Liberal Studies Programs Conference in Portland, Oregon

Judith McKay, J.D., Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Department of Multidisciplinary Studies (DMS) in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), gave a presentation at the 2012 Association for Graduate Liberal Studies Programs Annual Conference sponsored by Reed College in Portland, Oregon. The theme of the conference was, “The Crisis of the Book: Worlds of Opportunity, Worlds of Change.” The Master of Arts in Cross-disciplinary Studies program in DMS was accepted as an Associate Member of ASLSP in 2011.

McKay’s presentation was entitled:  “Applying Old and New Technologies and Approaches to Connect the Academy and the Community.”  The session addressed the opportunities the university has to become more involved with the local and global community using new technologies. NSU’s community involvement was highlighted as was the scholarship of engagement.

McKay also directs Community Resolution Services (CRS). CRS offers training, workshops, mediation, facilitation, conflict coaching, and community building services to individuals, families, groups, and organizations in order to resolve conflicts.
