Ramazan Türkmen, Ph.D., from Selcuk University in Konya, Turkey, spent the 2011–2012 academic year at the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. During his visit, attended math seminars, and presented his work on campus. He also collaborated with college faculty Fuzhen Zhang, Ph.D., professor, and Vehbi Paksoy, Ph.D., associate professor on research. One resulting paper, on inequalities of majorization type, was published in the journal Linear Algebra and Its Applications. Another, on generalized matrix functions, is under review for publication. Türkmen also presented the group’s findings as part of the college’s Mathematics Colloquium Series on Apr. 18.

Türkmen’s visit was co-supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey and a Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Mini Grant.

“This collaboration exemplifies the quality of scholarship being conducted by members of the college,” said Don Rosenblum, Ph.D., dean of the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences. “I’m pleased to support such meaningful academic partnerships and contributions.”
