Zack is slated to become president of the ABA in August 2010 and will become the first Hispanic-American president of the largest voluntary bar association in the world. He was raised in Cuba and is the son of a Cuban mother and American father. He was also the first Hispanic-American to be president of The Florida Bar, a position he held in 1989 when he was also the youngest president of The Florida Bar.

NSU’s Shepard Broad Law Center has been recognized for its commitment to providing legal education to Hispanics. The Law Center ranked fourth nationally in the number of law degrees awarded to Hispanics in the latest rankings by Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education magazine.

Zack also previously served as chair of the ABA’s House of Delegates from 2004 to 2006. The 555-member body debates and votes on issues that become official ABA policy, and the chair of the House is the second highest elected office within the association. Zack is also a partner in the national law firm Boies, Schiller and Flexner LLP.

The trustees of Nova Southeastern University will award Zack an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws. The commencement ceremony will be held for graduates and their families on Sunday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.
