Pharmacy Professor Wins NSU Golden Apple Award

Angela García, Pharm.D.

Angela García, Pharm.D., assistant professor of pharmacy practice at NSU’s College of Pharmacy (COP), has been awarded the NSU Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching in 2011.  García has been extensively involved in teaching drug information and drug literature evaluation skills in the COP among other courses such as therapeutics and pathophysiology and patient care management lab.  She continually demonstrates high enthusiasm and creativity when giving lectures and has been recognized by her students and fellow faculty members.  She has shown dedication to student learning by working with other faculty members to create “Lib Guides,” which are resources on the COP library page to help students with therapeutics and patient care management courses regarding disease state management.  García also has created a WebCT course for the Drug Information Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) so that students have more resources and opportunities to participate in learning activities at all sites.

García’s strong commitment to serving patients combined with teaching students is shown through her participation and coordination of the COP Jamaica Medical Trip for pharmacy students for four years.  She has published and lectured on the role of pharmacy in the medical missions and continues to do research in this area.  Last year, she was invited to lecture at an international conference regarding “Medication Management and Counseling Skills” at Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan.   García will also be recognized as Distinguished Young Pharmacist by the Florida Pharmacy Association in June, 2011.
