Pembroke Pines Commissioner Carl Shechter supported an important NSU College of Allied Health and Nursing (CAHN) endeavor to measure the effectiveness of a research project for the elderly. The commissioner supported Cathy Peirce, Ph.D., OTR/L, assistant professor of occupational therapy; Margaret Davis, DHSc., MSN, M.Ed., R.N., assistant director of the nursing department’s clinical skills lab; and others at CAHN on a research project called “Promoting Health Through Physical Activity: The Howard C. Forman Health Promotion Project, Phase III.”
This project aims to measure the effectiveness of a wellness program consisting of education and physical activity, which is designed to increase the level of physical activity as well as the health, well-being, and engagement in the daily activities of elderly residents. Those residents reside at Pines Place, a senior apartment complex in Pembroke Pines. Shechter received an award of appreciation from CAHN for his support.
