Oceanographic Center Student Government Association to help Host Beneath the Waves Film Festival, April 23

The Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Oceanographic Center Student Government Association is sponsoring the internationally acclaimed Beneath the Waves Film Festival. The Festival will feature short films ranging in topics from coral reef restoration to humans’ relationship with the ocean to the creative force behind art in marine science.

The Film Festival screening will take place on Wednesday, April 23 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the NSU’s Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale’s Horvitz Auditorium, One East Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale followed by a panel of expert marine scientists from NSU’s Oceanographic Center. This is a free event and is open to the entire South Florida community.

Through the use of stunning footage to tell inspiring stories, the Beneath the Waves Film Festival is intended to raise awareness of marine conservation issues locally and globally.  Started by marine science graduate students and scientists who saw the urgency to create a more powerful means of communicating scientific research, the Film Festival has attracted hundreds of films from all corners of the world.  Such events have connected thousands of people from all backgrounds with the stories and issues facing the oceans.  The aim of this screening of the Beneath the Waves Film Festival is to bridge the gap between science and the public in a way that inspires awe and action.

Because of limited seating, those interested in attending are strongly encouraged to R.S.V.P via an online service.
