NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences Raises Awareness About Cyber Security

FORT LAUDERDALE (Davie), Fla. – Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences (GSCIS) is hosting a series of events in observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM).  October NCSAM Events web image

The events will take place on NSU’s main campus in Davie – 3100 College Ave, 33314 – at the Knight Auditorium in the Carl DeSantis Building.

National Cyber Security Awareness Month has been observed annually each October since its inception. Now in its 10th year, the awareness program was created by the Obama Administration to engage and educate the public and private sectors about cyber security, and to increase the resiliency of the American public in the event of a cyber-incident.

Every Thursday throughout the month of October, GSCIS will host presentations and discussions relating to cyber-security across various industries.

 

Events include:

October 3 at 6:00 p.m.
Presentation on National Cyber Security Awareness presented by Special Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)

October 10 at 9:00 a.m.
Raising Savvy Cyber Kids
Presentation by Ben Halpert, an award-winning author of The Savvy Cyber Kids at Home: The Family Gets a Computer and The Savvy Cyber Kids at Home: The Defeat of the Cyber Bully.

October 17 at 4:00 p.m.
Healthcare Cyber Security Summit
Special presentations by top healthcare security professionals including John Christly, NSU’s Chief Information Security Officer; and professionals from AccessData and RSA.

October 24 at 1:00 p.m.
Webinar – “12 Simple Cybersecurity Rules for Your Small Business” by GSCIS Professor James Cannady, Ph.D.

About NCSAM: Recognizing the importance of cybersecurity, President Obama designated October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). NCSAM is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives with the goal of raising awareness about cybersecurity and increasing the resiliency of the nation in the event of a cyber incident.
