NSU’s Department of Public Safety Recognized by Department of Defense Organization

NSU’s Department of Public Safety was recently honored by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR), a Department of Defense organization, for its commitment to supporting NSU employees serving in the military.

Nominated by Public Safety Officer Christian Ferrier, the Public Safety Department was selected to receive ESGR’s Patriot’s Award, which is presented to employers whose workforce policies allow them to support their military personnel through various means, including but not limited to allocating leave for deployment and weekly/monthly drill sessions.

Ferrier has been with NSU just over two years as a Public Safety Officer. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 2010 as a Seaman Recruit and currently serves as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. Ferrier and his Coast Guard unit based in Fort Pierce, FL., are primarily responsible for Search and Rescue and Maritime Law Enforcement.

Several of Ferrier’s colleagues in the Department of Public Safety, as well as a number of NSU employees, serve their community and country as active duty military personnel or as members of reserve units. “NSU is proud to support our employees who serve as reservists in our nation’s military” said John J. Santulli, II, vice president for Facilities Management. “The spirit of volunteerism helped create our great country and continues to distinguish America today.”
