NSU’s College of Engineering and Computing Hosts Events to Raise Cybersecurity Awareness

Events Are Part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month

FORT LAUDERDALE–DAVIE, Fla.Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) will be hosting a series of events in observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). The events will take place on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus, 3301 College Ave., Davie. Upcoming events include:

 

October 15 – Cyber Security Day
More than 150 high school students from Miami-Dade County Public Schools will visit NSU’s Main Campus to learn about cyber security safety. This half-day event, which is closed to the public, will be filled with workshops and lectures about cybersecurity. Presenters include: Special Agent Nazario, U.S. Secret Services – Miami Electronic Crimes Task Force,; Mr. Gadi Hus, Chief Operating Office of Volico Hosting; FBI Special Agency Umbel; Sanjay Deo, Founder and CEO of 24by7Security, Inc.,; Dr. Yair Levy, CEC Professor of Information Systems and Cybersecurity; and Melissa Carlton, a CEC Ph.D. student.

 

October 15 @ 6 p.m.
Panel Discussion on “Building the Next Generation of Cyber Professionals”

CEC brings a panel of cybersecurity experts across various industries to bring awareness to the field, and discuss the current and future state of the cybersecurity profession. The panel discussion will be moderated by CEC Professor James Cannady Ph.D., and will include panel members, Mauricio Angee, CISO at Mount Sinai Hospital and NSU alumnus; Sanjay Deo, Founder & CEO of 24By7Security, Inc.; and Ana Roldan, AvMed Health Plans Director of IT Security Risk and Compliance, and NSU alumna. October 21 @ noon
CEC will host a webinar – “Your Evolving Digital Life.” In a world that revolves around technology, how do you protect yourself and your digital footprint? This event will feature Michael Rocha, Deputy Program Manager for the DHS National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers & Studies (NICCS.) Join us during this webinar to learn more about maintaining a safe and secure identity and world online. National Cyber Security Awareness Month has been observed annually each October since its inception. Now in its 12th year, the awareness program was created to engage and educate the public and private sectors about cyber security and to increase the resiliency of the American public in the event of a cyber-incident. In addition, NSU’s College of Engineering and Computing is home to several Cybersecurity Subject Matter Experts who are available to talk with media who are working stories related to this subject.
