NSU to Sponsor Statewide Writing, Essay & Artwork Contest with the Holocaust Learning and Education Fund, Inc.
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is pleased to announce that it is joining forces with the Holocaust Learning and Education Fund, Inc. to sponsor a statewide essay, artwork and documentary contest focusing on Holocaust education. Each student participant will be asked to submit artwork, a documentary or word description of their personal experiences and education about the Holocaust, demonstrating how this education is relevant to their lives and current thinking in today’s world.
NSU’s faculty will help administer and judge the entries. Six winning students (three from middle schools and three from high schools) in each of the three categories (artwork, essay or short form documentary), as well as a parent and each student’s relevant teacher, will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. During their visit they will also be invited to participate in meetings with national and international dignitaries. This program is open to all middle and high school students in the State of Florida commencing with the 2014-15 school year.
“This contest offers a wonderful and unique opportunity for Florida students to share their personal point of view about a most significant time in the world’s history through creative writing and artistic means. NSU is proud to be a part of this important learning and teaching experience,” said Ralph Rogers, Nova Southeastern University Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Details on the contest will be mailed to private and public schools at the start of the 2014-15 school year. Additional information will be available prior to the upcoming school year on both the http://www.undergrad.nova.edu/holocaust/index.cfm website as well as www.holocausteducationfund.com.
