Preceptor Erica Zimprich, Pharm.D., PHS IHC, Marisol Lebrón, NSU pharmacy student; past preceptor Jackie Roth, Pharm.D., PHS IHC

College of Pharmacy student Marisol Lebrón, 2015, Puerto Rico Campus was featured in the Healthy Heart Program newsletter during her rotation at the Indian Health Center (IHC) in Fort Thompson, South Dakota. The center provides health care services to Native Americans in one of 16 reservations in the Great Plains area. Lebrón was recognized for her “NSU COP shark pride,” her enthusiasm working within a multicultural heath care setting, and for sharing her knowledge of metabolic syndrome – the name for a group of risk factors that occur together and increase the chance of having heart diseases, diabetes type 2 and a stroke. According to Lebrón , her involvement with the health care team and the patients she worked with during this rotation “was really a great experience that enhanced my intercultural abilities from theory to practice.”
