NSU to Participate in Collaborative “Florida Waterways Dance Project” Mar. 5

Students and faculty members from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences at NSU will join fellow dancers across the state on March 5, in a special collaborative performance as part of the first-ever Florida Waterways Dance Project (FWDP). The event will begin promptly at 4 p.m., in front of the lake between the Don Taft University Center and the Parker Building.

Dale Andree, a dance faculty member at New World School of the Arts in downtown Miami, created the FWDP. The event is designed to draw attention to the power and fragility of Florida’s waterways. NSU is one of eight locations across the state that will host simultaneous performances, which will be streamed live on www.floridawaterwaysdanceproject.com.

About 30 dancers will perform at NSU, including nine students from the Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences Division of Performing and Visual Arts. Performers from Broward County’s Jubilee Dance Theatre will also take part in the event. The NSU performance was organized and choreographed by Elana Lanczi, M.F.A., assistant professor in the college, and Daniela Wancier, M.F.A., adjunct professor in the college, and Luctricia Welters, director of the Jubilee Dance Theatre. NSU students will also be assisting in the filming and broadcasting of the performance.

The Florida Waterways Dance Project performance is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit on during the performance. For more information, contact Elana Lanczi at 954-262-7613 or visit www.floridawaterwaysdanceproject.com.
