NSU Nursing Faculty Member Publishes Article on National Nursing Faculty Shortage

Marcia Derby-Davis

Marcia J. Derby, Ph.D., R.N.

Marcia J. Derby, Ph.D., R.N., associate professor in NSU’s College of Nursing, recently published an article in the Journal of Nursing and Care titled, “The Nursing Faculty Shortage: Predictors of Job Satisfaction and Intent to Stay in Academe: A Review of the Literature.”

The article explored the impact of the nursing shortage on the United States health care system which directly effects the supply and demand of registered nurses (R.N.s) in clinical work environments and the ability of these nurses to deliver high quality patient care.

She argues that one of the challenges faced by deans and directors of schools of nursing is to identify strategies that will encourage faculty to stay in academia and that establishing a clear relationship between variables is vital to resolving the problem of faculty shortage.
