NSU Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Frank DePiano (right), Ph.D., presents Fran Tetunic (left), J.D, a Shepard Broad Law Center professor with an External Funding Recognition plaque

Nova Southeastern University faculty were honored on Sept. 21 at the NSU External Funding Recognition Ceremony, which recognizes the efforts of NSU faculty members who have received external grant funding in the previous fiscal year. Fiscal Year 2011 saw great progress in the area of external funding, with total external funding exceeding $76 million. This event recognizes the extraordinary efforts of faculty members who contributed to this milestone and encourages the continued pursuit of more external funding.

The event took place at the Grande Oaks Golf Club and was hosted by NSU Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Frank DePiano, Ph.D., and Gary S. Margules, Sc.D., NSU vice president for research and technology transfer. The event included two special award presentations. First, a Lifetime Achievement Award for Providing Opportunities for Research NSU was presented to NSU Chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr. Ferrero’s creation and continued support of the Faculty Research and Development Grant program since 1999, and also his establishment and support of the Quality of Life Council since 2002 were highlighted in a tribute video and an award presentation by NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D.

The second special presentation was for the first annual Provost’s Research and Scholarship Award, presented by Provost Frank DePiano to Mark B. Sobell, Ph.D., ABPP, an NSU Center for Psychological Studies professor and researcher.  Provost DePiano also recognized four finalists for the Provost’s Research and Scholarship Award.
