Nova Southeastern University Announces New Ph.D. in Information Assurance Program

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla.– March 3, 2014 –

Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences is now offering the first Information Assurance Ph.D. for working professionals in the United States.

NSU is designated a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). NSA’s goal in establishing centers of academic excellence is to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in information assurance (IA) and producing more professionals with IA expertise in various disciplines.

The information security curriculum is certified for compliance with the requirements and standards of the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) for the NSA/DHS certifications for NSTISSI No. 4011 (Information Systems Security Professionals), CNSSI No. 4012 (Senior System Administrators), and CNSSI No. 4013 (System Administrators).

NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences has been a pioneer of information security education for nearly a decade, at a time when most did not understand what information security entailed or its importance.

“Educating future information security leaders and researchers is essential to continue innovation in the field and identification of opportunities to improve our IT infrastructures, network and cyber security,” said Eric S. Ackerman, dean of NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences.

The Ph.D. in Information Assurance will be a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, research program that prepares graduates for key positions in academia; federal, state and local government agencies; and business and industry. The curriculum will combine both technically intensive and management-focused security courses to provide a comprehensive approach to the study of information assurance/information security. The first of its kind, the Ph.D. in Information Assurance will allow working professionals to earn the degree without career interruption.

Applications for the new program are available and being accepted for fall 2014 enrollment.
