New Initiative to Bring Education and Mentoring Services to the Underserved to be Announced

FORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla.– April 10, 2014 –

100NSU’s Don Taft University Center will serve as the host venue for a press conference to announce details of a new initiative between the 100 Black Men of America, Inc., Broward County Public Schools and Nova Southeastern University that will connect the impact of mentoring with high school graduation rates, to improve results for under served youth in South Florida.

Statistics reflect that nine million at-risk youth in this country, including many in South Florida, will reach the age of 19 without a mentor.  Studies also show that 76% of youth who are mentored aspire to enroll in and graduate from college, compared to 56% who have no mentor.

Also to be announced, with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau; The 100 Black Men of America, Inc.’s 28th Annual Conference to be held June 12-15, 2014 at the Westin Diplomat in Hollywood Florida under the theme:  “Education in an Era of Change:  Ensuring Excellence for African American Youth.”  The 100 Black Men of America has the largest number of Black male mentors in the world.

The event will take place on Thursday, April 10 at 1 p.m. promptly at the Nova Southeastern University Don Taft University Center Club Room, 3301 College Ave Ft. Lauderdale, FL. 33315.
