Law Center Dean Voted Chair-Elect of the Law School Admission Council

Athornia Steele, J.D.

Athornia Steele, J.D., dean of the Shepard Broad Law Center, was voted chair-elect of the Law School Admission Council at the 2012 Annual Meeting and Educational Conference of LSAC held May 30 – Jun. 2 at the Boca Raton Resort & Club.  Steele, a former member of the faculty at Capital University Law School, became the dean at NSU’s Law Center in 2008.

He has been active with the Council since 1997 serving three terms on its board of trustees and as a member of the organization’s Minority Affairs Committee (on which he served as chair during 2005-2007), Test Development and Research Committee, Finance and Legal Affairs Committee, Audit Committee, and Nominating Committee. In addition to these standing committees, Dean Steele has participated in several special workgroups including academic assistance training workshop planning and the Skills Readiness Inventory workgroups.

The Law School Admission Council (Council), a nonprofit corporation, provides unique, state-of-the-art products and services to ease the admission process for law schools and their applicants worldwide. It was founded in 1947 to create and administer the law school admission test (LSAT). Since its founding, LSAC has grown and provides a number of important and valuable services for students seeking admission to law school and for its member schools, including credential assembly, candidate referral, law school recruitment forums, diversity initiatives, and test preparation materials.

Dean Steele will serve one year as chair-elect, two years as chair, and one additional year as the immediate past chair. “The Council has an excellent staff and I welcome the opportunity to join with them to improve on our products and services,” stated Steele. “Legal education, like the legal profession, has and is undergoing significant changes. I also look forward to working with our sister organizations, Section on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar of the American Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, and the National Association of Legal Career Professionals (NALP) to collaboratively meet these changes.”
