Justin Garcia breaks the NSU home run record of 17, reaching 21 after five home runs against Eckerd.

Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.) has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, the third time he has won the award in 2015. Garcia launched five home runs on Saturday, homering twice in the first game of the doubleheader and three times in the series finale. Garcia now holds the NSU single season home run record, smashing the previous record of 17 held by Bryan Cook, Ed Mackie and Areo Regoli.

Garcia blasted five of NSU’s 13 home runs against Eckerd College this past weekend, the most home runs NSU has hit in a single weekend this year. Garcia’s teammates Teft Hill (R-So., Fort Myers, Fla.), Mario Urdaneta (Sr., Ocala, Fla.), Roche Woodard (Sr., Tampa, Fla.), Nick McNeil (Jr., Clearwater, Fla.), Alexander Fernandez (Sr., Davie, Fla.) and Michael Hernandez (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) also homered this weekend, as Hill and Urdaneta homered twice each.

NSU will be back in action Friday night at 6 p.m., hosting its final series of the year against the Barry Bucs. The series will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday is also Senior Day, honoring all of the Sharks seniors on their outstanding careers.
