Jane Austen Fans Unite at NSU’s Library with Series of Events, Tea & Biscuits for Teens and Adults – Jan. 19-23

FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Do you love the classical, romantic and ironic literary novelist Jane Austen?

Then don’t miss out on a special series of events in her honor at Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center. 

These events were created for teen and adult “Janeites” and budding fans alike. Here is the schedule:

For teens:

  • Zombie Book Talk (ages 15-18)
    Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
    Take a classic Jane Austen novel and add brain-eating undead and you’ll get the bestselling Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Come discuss this entertaining mash-up of a classic.
  • Teen Movie Matinee (ages 13-15)
    Friday, Jan. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m.
    Watch a movie with friends on an early release day. Trivia question: the movie Clueless was loosely based on which Jane Austen novel? Find out at the movie matinee!

For adults:

An Afternoon With Jane Austen in Three Parts
Sunday, Jan. 23 from 1 to 4 p.m.

  • 1 to 2 p.m. – Solving a real Jane Austen Charade; followed by “Jane Austen the Secret Radical Feminist: The Shadow Story of Emma” with Arnie Perlstein, an independent scholar and attorney.
  • 2:15 to 3 p.m. – “Becoming Jane: Austen and Contemporary Popular Culture” with Suzanne Ferriss, Ph.D., professor of English from NSU’s Farquahar College of Arts and Sciences.
  • 3 to 4 p.m. – “Becoming Janeites: Creating a Vibrant Local Community for the Love of Jane” and tea with biscuits.
