CPS Professor Coordinates Concussion Management Services

Center for Psychological Studies assistant professor and faculty representative for NSU athletics Stephen Russo, Ph.D.,  is coordinating a three-year effort to provide state-of-the art concussion management services to high schools in the Broward County Athletic Association. Russo also collaborates with the Health Professions Division and athletic training in the NSU Sport Medicine Clinic.

Over the past two years, baseline neuron-cognitive testing for almost 2000 high school student athletes in Broward County has been conducted through the collaborative efforts of NSU, the BCAA, and services providers at Broward Health and Memorial Health. During the 2011-2012 academic year, the clinic expects to have full participation from 32 high schools. Over 10,000 student athletes in Broward County will have taken baseline examinations prior to the start of their competitive and practice seasons. This would constitute the largest community-based sport concussion initiative in the State of Florida.
