Center for Psychological Studies to Host Forensic Psychology Day Event, April 25
You’ve heard of the various CSI: franchises on TV – Las Vegas, New York and Miami. Could CSI: NSU be next!?
Who knows – but what is known is that Nova Southeastern University will be the site of a Forensic Psychology Day event. This event, hosted by NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies, is scheduled from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25 in the Maltz Building.
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will receive a certificate of participation, breakfast and lunch. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited so those interested in attend are urged to RSVP online (www.nova.edu/dais/sharkchats).
The day-long event features NSU Subject Matter Experts Lenore Walker, Ph.D.; Steven Gold, Ph.D.; David Shapiro, Ph.D.; Ginger Lerner-Wren, J.D.; and Stephanie Akl, M.S. The event will feature a panel presentation by the subject matter experts, followed by five breakout sessions:
- Ginger Lerner-Wren, J.D.—The Mental Health Court;
- David Shapiro, Ph.D.—Psychology and Risk Assessment of Future Violence;
- Steven Gold, Ph.D.—The Impact of Trauma on Behavior;
- Lenore Walker, Ph.D.—Battered Women Who Kill in Self Defense;
- Stephanie Akl, M.S.—A Student’s View of Forensic Psychology Training.
Attendees will discover the exciting field of forensic psychology, one of the many programs offered by NSU’s Center for Psychological Studies. The master’s degree program in forensic psychology is a 36- credit, online program that presents information at the intersection of legal issues and psychology. Students are prepared to understand what forensic psychologists do and apply this training in a variety of professional contexts. This degree program provides students with the professional training necessary to function at an optimal level in a variety of forensic settings where psychology is used, including court cases, law enforcement, criminal justice, national security offices, prisons, social services agencies, child welfare agencies and treatment facilities.
