Ammons and Matautia Earn All-SSC Honors

rp_primary_SSC_SoftballNova Southeastern University softball players Katrina Ammons (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla.) and Te Reo Powhiri Matautia (Jr., Auckland, New Zealand) were each named 2015 All-Sunshine State Conference honorees, as announced Wednesday. Ammons was named the All-SSC First Team first baseman, while Matautia was named an outfielder on the All-SSC Second Team.

Ammons had a career season in which she hit for power and average. Ammons led the Sharks with a .563 slugging percentage and hit .373 over 126 at bats. She recorded 12 doubles, four home runs and 27 RBI, leading the squad in all three categories. Starting in 44 of 45 games this season, Ammons only committed five errors at first base and held a .985 fielding percentage.

With her two-year Shark career wrapped up, Ammons finished with a .511 slugging percentage, which ranks 10th in the NSU career record book.

Matautia earned all-conference honors in her first year with NSU, playing both left and centerfield. She led the Sharks with 23 runs scored and hit .313, slugged .414 and reached base at a .409 clip. She also added 16 RBI, making her one of three players on the team with over 15.

Defensively, Matautia shined and held a team-leading four outfield assists. She is one of three players to reach that mark in the last five seasons for NSU.

Both players, as well as other teammates, will be eligible for All-South Region distinction later this spring.
